Paediatric Acute care Guidelines PMH Emergency Department

Our research

As well as seeing over 72,000 children that come through our doors, we have ongoing research studies in our Emergency Department:

The Australian Paediatric Head Injury Rules Study = A-PHIRST

This is a review of children following head injury – to look at the investigations done and any adverse outcomes.

Prednisolone Response Evaluation in viral induced episodic wheeze = PREVIEW

This study looks at steroids versus placebo in viral associated wheeze and their impact on acute presentations and recurrence.

Trial of Prednisolone Dexamethasone oral glucocorticoid = ToPDoG

This study is looking at prednisolone versus low and high dose dexamethasone in children with croup.

Febrile seizures: Viral infections and their etiologic role = FEVER

This study aims to determine the incidence of specific viral pathogens causing febrile seizures.
