Dear Doctor,

  RE:

The above named patient presented on  to Princess Margaret Hospital Emergency
  Department  and  was  diagnosed  with

As this is a stable fracture, they have been placed in CAM boot which should be worn for 3-4 weeks and
weight bear as tolerated. This simple fracture does not need to be routinely followed up in the PMH
  fracture clinic.

The emergency department recently instituted this change in practice, with support from the PMH
Orthopaedic Department, to improve the care of children with simple ankle fractures. Evidence suggests
that these children can be treated safely and effectively in a CAM boot.  CAM boots are easy and quick
to apply, can be removed at night and for washing and are more comfortable than plaster.

Patients can weight bear on the CAM boot as tolerated.
